Seventy cars up the dale: the Burnsall run in pictures
Seventy vehicles came out for the summer run on Sunday 19 July. That is the largest field we have put on the road since the fortieth anniversary run, and the car park at Ilkley was full by nine o'clock.
The oldest car on the entry was a 1934 Austin Seven. It did the whole route on its own wheels and was still running sweetly at Grassington, by which time a good deal of newer machinery had its bonnet up.
We went out through Bolton Abbey, along the valley to Burnsall for the first stop, then up to Grassington.
The morning was not entirely without incident. Peter Longstaff's Dolomite lost its clutch a mile short of Grassington and was bled at the roadside by four members, one length of tube nobody has admitted owning, and a flask that appeared from somewhere and did not go back. Twenty minutes, and the repair held all the way home.
The Rover P5 sat at the back and set the pace, as is its right. Tom rode in it with the camera.
Thanks to the marshals on the junctions, and to The Red Lion for holding thirty lunches while we sorted the Dolomite out.
All the photographs are Tom Arkwright's. If you want prints, ask him at a club night. He says emails go to a folder he has never once found.
